Plot summary

The Turtles are practicing martial arts in Key Park, when "Shredder" arrives. Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael easily subdue him, merely to find that it's actually Michelangelo in a homemade costume.

Just then, an alien spacecraft crashes into a nearby pond. The Turtles dive in and rescue the alien pilot from drowning, though he has apparently been fatally wounded in the crash. Before dying, the airplane pilot tells the Turtles that the three fragments of the Eye of Sarnath accidentally fell towards the Earth from the spacecraft when it crashed. They have to find it earlier information technology comes into the "incorrect easily," because the fragments have incredible alien powers. To notice them, he gives Donatello a crystalline tracking device, the Crystal Converger. The pilot then dies and disappears.

The Turtles are unaware that Shredder has been eavesdropping on them from backside a nearby bush. He contacts Krang in Dimension X, demanding Human foot Soldiers, simply Krang refuses.

The Turtles bulldoze around the streets of New York City, searching for the fragments, when the tracking d device leads them to the docks. As they detect the offset fragment, Shredder snatches it abroad, aims it at the Turtles, and shrinks them down to mere inches. They manage to escape with the Converger, and make their way into the sewers.

While Splinter contacts Apr O'Neil to help them, Shredder uses the fragment to compress skyscrapers, including the Empire Country Building, to print Krang. Baxter Stockman shows Shredder a new invention: a "Oestrus Seeking Turtle Scope."

The Turtles discover that being tiny is no picnic, since they are faced with life-threatening danger from snakes and fish. A overflowing of water washes them out into the river, where Baxter Stockman catches them in a internet. Subsequently putting the Turtles in a jar, Shredder shows Krang how he is going to murder the Turtles with a pipe. Krang seems impressed.

Splinter experiences a feeling about where the Turtles are, which leads him direct to Shredder'due south hideout. When they crash through the front door, April activates the Turtle Van catapult, throwing Splinter out to assail Shredder. While Shredder and Splinter fight, April takes the fragment and aims it towards the Turtles, who become back to their normal size, just Shredder and Baxter Stockman escape with the fragments.

Dorsum in the sewers, Splinter gives the Turtles small pizzas as a joke.

Notes

Blitheness errors

  • The plank of forest that Shredder uses to trap Raphael at the start of the episode changes position and angle in each cutscene showing it.
  • After the security guard had freed the man from the shrinking Empire State Building, the shot of the building was non seen shrinking slowly to its current point just instead cut to its smaller state instead.
  • The buttons on Shredder's comlink were missing when Krang allowed Shredder to finish off the Turtles with the crowbar.

Continuity/logic errors

  • The Turtles seriously couldn't tell that was Michelangelo in that Shredder disguise? One would think the orange armbands and the exposed dark-green peel would have given him away...
  • Michelangelo says that he fabricated the mask from an erstwhile pizza tray, simply it looks more like a colander
  • When they are shrinking, even the Turtles' weapons shrink together, but the net where Leonardo was trapped does non change at all.
  • Oddly plenty, shrinking monuments and buildings will affect everything except for everyone who happens to be in them at the time. Once shrunken, said buildings can also exist neatly picked off of the ground, completely ignoring any empty-headed things like internal plumbing or a foundation that you might be thinking of.
  • Baxter tells Shredder that he invented a "Rut Seeking Turtle Scope" that can assistance him find the Turtles, even though turtles are suppose to be cold blooded.
  • When the Turtles commencement to grow within the confines of the jar, the glass expands with their bodies, about as if information technology's fabricated out of rubber. Permit's ignore the obvious facts that not only does glass not work that way, but the Turtles should accept been crushed/severely injured by their expanding bodies being forced confronting the glass. Then again its never stated to be glass.
  • When the Turtles are returning to their usual size, April is holding the crystal fragment. A few shots later, information technology's lying on the flooring with no caption for how it got at that place. In fact, April herself seems to have vanished from the room.
  • In one case the Turtles were restored, the fragment well-nigh immediately lands in Shredder's easily and he and Baxter escape. With the fragment gone, how practice the Turtles end up restoring the shrunken buildings? It goes right to April's news report that the buildings are supposedly back to normal.

Trivia

  • The graphic symbol design of the guardian is strongly inspired by the famous alien E.T. protagonist of the classic 1982 moving-picture show E.T. the Actress-Terrestrial.
  • This is the first episode in the series where a living graphic symbol clearly dies on screen. Immediately afterward the conflicting passes away, he even leaves behind a coffin-shaped burn marker (or shadow) on the grass.
  • Until the episode "Expletive of the Evil Eye", all of the episodes from this bespeak onwards focus on the Turtles and Shredder trying to get all of the pieces of the Centre of Sarnath.
  • Mere moments before Shredder grabs the gem, await at Donatello'due south hand. It raises up, almost equally if Donatello wanted to hand it over to Shredder.
  • The Turtles get trumped rather badly at the commencement of this episode by the Shredder, but a few of the mistakes made can be chalked up to inexperience on their office (which is hinted at the beginning, and Splinter fifty-fifty indicates this towards the terminate). For example, Michelangelo confronts Shredder while putting i human foot over an obvious snare, Raphael gets trapped by an easily avoidable plank of wood and Leonardo just stands at that place and watches Shredder accelerate towards him, which results in him being easily disarmed and netted.
  • If Shredder wanted to be rid of the Turtles so badly, why did he even carp putting air holes in the jar once he captured them? I guess he really did want await for Krang.
  • One time Shredder gets the upper hand confronting Splinter, he leaps towards him and turns on the machine in the process with his pes. Withal, from the way information technology's fatigued, information technology looks like it was done purely past accident. Shredder's dialog when the automobile is stopped by Donatello's staff makes it sound similar he did information technology on purpose, which makes this situation a tad odd. All according to plan?
    • Also, it didn't announced as if Shredder would have released Splinter at all on the cheese wrapping machine. Isn't he concerned that he'd finish up crushed himself?
  • Shredder using a jewel to shrink down a urban center will exist revisited again in the video game The Hyperstone Heist.
  • Bebop and Rocksteady practice non appear from this episode up until "The Example of the Killer Pizzas".
  • Michaelangelo finds himself miniaturized once again in the episode "Funny, They Shrunk Michelangelo."
  • In the comic version of the book, the NYPD is collecting the shrunken buildings to study. Baxter manages to gain some for Shredder by impersonating an NYPD officeholder, wearing a law compatible.

Raphael: Wrong Leonardo, we're getting smaller!

The fragment is shrinking the Turtles

Leonardo: Head for the high basis!

Donatello: I got news for ya, the loftier ground is besides high.

- No kidding, Don.
